Why 'Scorched Earth' can be a good thing
Historically here in the School of Engineering, software installation was handled by a single person. What I mean by this is, if a faculty person required specific software to be installed, one individual would take the time to get that software to work. Little if any documentation was created as we relied on this one person to always be there.

When I first started the network was a 100mb switched network. The infrastructure consisted of a single vlan that spanned two buildings and was assigned range of approximately 2000 IP addresses. About 90% of the addresses were either statically assigned in the OS or reserved through DHCP. DHCP services were provided by the main campus IT by a home-grown application that integrated with LDAP. DNS services were provided by SOECS staff and hosted multiple engineering domains as well as the SOECS Active Directory DNS infrastructure.

Converting RIS to WDS
Overview: There are several methods of converting an existing RIS Server to WDS but the easiest seems to be upgrading to Windows Server 2003 SP 2. If SP 2 is already installed all you need do is choose WDS from the Add Windows Components section of Add/Remove Programs.
